For years, customers visiting Aahs Spas in Hillsboro often toured the factory and learned about the manufacturing process, but actually visualizing a finished spa setup sometimes required a little imagination.
That is changing with the company’s new showroom space in Hillsboro, which owner Chuck Maltbie says was designed to create a more immersive and practical customer experience.
“We’ve taken an old space that used to belong to a heating and air conditioning company that really hadn’t been used for several years, and we’ve completely revamped and modernized it,” Maltbie explains. “We have created a space where we can properly showcase our products on their own, regardless of whether you choose to take a factory tour.”
The new showroom gives Aahs Spas a dedicated environment where customers can compare spa models, understand size differences, and begin imagining how a spa could fit into their own outdoor living space.
Moving Beyond the Traditional Showroom
According to Maltbie, the vision for the showroom goes beyond simply displaying hot tubs in a room. “We want people to walk in and start envisioning more for their backyard,” he says. “Maybe they come in thinking about one thing, but then they start seeing possibilities and ideas they hadn’t considered before. We want to help create that experience.”
The showroom is intended to function almost like a creative planning space, where homeowners can better understand how different spa sizes, layouts, and features work together within a larger backyard design.
That hands-on experience matters, especially for customers purchasing a spa for the first time. “It takes away a lot of the guesswork,” Maltbie says. “People can better understand the size, the seating, and the overall feel of the spa when it’s displayed the way it’s actually meant to be experienced.”
A Valuable Resource for Independent Dealers
The new showroom will also serve as an important tool for Aahs Spas dealers, many of whom are independent businesses without large retail locations.
“A lot of our dealers are family-owned businesses,” Maltbie says. “Some work out of their homes and don’t necessarily have a big retail showroom. This new showroom gives them a place where they can bring customers, maybe tour the factory, and visit a dedicated showroom where they can explore different models, sizes, and options hands on.”
By augmenting factory tours with an option to visit a standalone showroom, dealers can offer customers both a behind-the-scenes look at manufacturing and a clearer understanding of finished products.
Maltbie says that combination can help customers feel more confident in their purchasing decisions.
Solving a Longstanding Space Challenge
Before the new showroom project, Aahs Spas operated with a limited display area inside the factory itself.
“At the factory, we really only had a small display room,” Maltbie explains. “We would actually stand spas up on edge and put them on wheels just so we could fit several models into the space. Every time something sold, we had to move everything around again. It worked, but it wasn’t ideal for helping customers understand size or layout.”
Displaying spas vertically helped maximize space, but Maltbie says it also created challenges for customers trying to understand the true dimensions of each model.
Room to Showcase More Spa and Hot Tub Models
The new 40-by-60-foot showroom area will allow Aahs Spas to display between nine and twelve spas simultaneously, giving customers a much broader view of available options.
“We’ll finally be able to show customers different configurations side-by-side,” Maltbie says. “Eight-foot models, seven-foot models, loungers, non-loungers, different jet configurations, different pump setups. Instead of trying to imagine it, customers can actually see it.”
Maltbie says the expanded showroom reflects the company’s continued focus on customer education, dealer support, and helping buyers feel confident about one of the larger purchases they may make for their home.
“Seeing the products in person just changes the experience,” he says. “It helps people understand what’s possible.”
